A three-dimensional numerical simulation of the buoyancy-driven magnetohydrodynamic flow of a liquid metal in a cubic enclosure is developed. In Part I the enclosure is differentially heated on two opposite vertical walls with the other walls adiabatic. A uniform magnetic field is applied orthogonal to the temperature gradient and gravity vector. The continuity, momentum, enthalpy transport and electric potential equations are solved by a finite volume method using a general-purpose package. Realistic data are used. In Part II the enclosure is heated volumetrically by a uniform power density with cooling on two opposite vertical walls. Again, the magnetic field is orthogonal to the gravity vector and temperature gradient. There is not much mathematical content in the papers, and readers will be mainly interested in the numerical results.
