The author is concerned with time \(T\)-periodic solutions to semilinear unbounded Hamiltonian systems in \(y\) and \(p\): \[ y'+ Ay\in\partial_pH(t,y,p),\quad p'- A^*p\in-\partial_y H(t,y,p), \] where \(A\) is a selfadjoint operator in a Hilbert space. The periodic conditions are \(y(0)=y(T)\), \(p(0)=p(T)\). Both the parabolic nonresonant case and the hyperbolic resonant case are treated. The results are new and their proof is based on optimization problems and Fourier analysis. In the resonant case, the following outstanding problem remains open: Find all \(T\) for which the above problem has solutions.
