A 2-perfect \(m\)-cycle system on a set \(X\) is a decomposition of the complete graph on \(X\) into edge-disjoint cycles of length \(m\) such that every pair of vertices occurs at distance 2 in a unique cycle. To any 2-perfect \(m\)-cycle system on \(X\) a quasigroup \((X,*)\) is associated by: \(a*b=c\), \(c*b=a\) just when \((\dots,a,b,c,\dots)\) is a cycle of the system, and \(a*a=a\). Quasigroups arising from 2-perfect \(m\)-cycle systems form a variety just when \(m=3, 5\) and 7; see \textit{D. E. Bryant} and \textit{C. C. Lindner} [2-perfect \(m\)-cycle systems can be equationally defined for \(m=3, 5\) and 7 only, Algebra Univers. 35, No. 1, 1-7 (1996; Zbl 0855.05039)]. A 2-perfect \(m\)-cycle system is strong provided the distance-two cycles are in the original system. Conditions are given under which the class of quasigroups arising from strong 2-perfect \(m\)-cycle systems forms a variety.
