Let \(k\) be an algebraically closed field, \(\Lambda\) and \(\Gamma\) two finite dimensional \(k\)-algebras. \(\Gamma\) and \(\Lambda\) are said to be derived equivalent if the derived categories of their module categories are equivalent as triangulated categories. These equivalences have been characterized by \textit{J. Rickard} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 39, No. 3, 436-456 (1989; Zbl 0642.16034) and J. Pure Appl. Algebra 61, No. 3, 303-317 (1989; Zbl 0685.16016)]. Assume that \(A\) and \(B\) are two algebras such that there are Galois covering functors \(A^\mathbb{Z}\to\Lambda\) and \(B^\mathbb{Z}\to\Gamma\). The principal aim of this paper is to construct a derived equivalence between \(\Lambda\) and \(\Gamma\) from one between \(A\) and \(B\). As a first step, the author shows that if \(A\) and \(B\) are derived equivalent, then their repetitions \(A^\mathbb{Z}\) and \(B^\mathbb{Z}\) are derived equivalent. Note that \(A^\mathbb{Z}\) is not an algebra, so a categorical version of Rickard's theorem is needed. Next, if \(R\) and \(S\) are derived equivalent categories and \(G\), \(H\) are groups of automorphisms of \(R\) and \(S\), respectively, then the author constructs, under certain assumptions, a derived equivalence between the quotient categories \(R/G\) and \(S/H\). As applications, the author provides derived equivalences for repetitions, trivial extensions, classifies self-injective algebras of type \(A_n\) up to derived equivalence, and shows explicitly that the principal \(2\)-block of \(\text{SL}(2,4)\) is derived equivalent to its Brauer correspondent.
