The author considers mono-energetic linear particle transport in 2D (approximating the Boltzmann equation by the Fokker-Planck equation, and this, in turn, by the Fermi equation). For the numerical solution, a domain decomposition approach with respect to the angular variable is proposed. For a similar method applied to the heat conduction equation, a convergence result is proved. Numerical experiments for the Fokker-Planck and the linear Boltzmann equation are performed as well and show that fast convergence (independently of the grid) takes place as long as a physical parameter, the nondimensionalized angular diffusion coefficient, is of moderate size.
