The authors consider a Sobolev inner product of the form \[ (p,q)_S=\int p(x)q(x)d\mu_1(x)+\lambda\int p'(x)q'(x)d\mu_2(x),\quad\lambda>0. \] In [\textit{A. Martínez-Finkelshtein, J. J. Moreno-Balcázar, T. E. Pérez} and \textit{M. A. Piñar}, Asymptotics of Sobolev orthogonal polynomials for coherent pairs of measures, J. Approximation Theory (to appear)] it is shown that if \((\mu_1,\mu_2)\) is a coherent pair of measures, supp\((\mu_1)=[-1,1]\), \(\{T_n(x)\}\) is the set of monic orthogonal polynomials with respect to the measure \(\mu_2\) and \(\{Q_n(x)\}\) is the set of monic orthogonal polynomials with respect to the inner product \((.,.)_S\), then \[ \lim_{n\to\infty}\frac{Q_n(x)}{T_n(x)}=\frac{1}{\Phi'(x)} \] uniformly on compact subsets of \(\overline\mathbb{C}\setminus[-1,1]\), where \(\Phi(x)=\frac{1}{2}(x+\sqrt{x^2-1})\) with \(\sqrt{x^2-1}>0\) when \(x>1\). In the present paper the authors derive the same result for \((\mu_1,\mu_2)\) a symmetrically coherent pair of measures. From this relative asymptotics result the authors derive some strong asymptotics of the polynomials \(\{Q_n(x)\}\) and in the last (short) section they also give some norm and zero asymptotics of the Sobolev norm \((Q_n,Q_n)_S\) and the zeroes of \(Q_n(x)\).
