Let \(K\) be a symmetric convex body in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). \textit{V. D. Milman} [Asterisque 131, 373-400 (1985; Zbl 0582.46015)] proved that there exists a function \(f:(0,1) \to \mathbb{R}^+\) such that for every \(\theta \in (0,1)\) there exists a subspace \(F\) of \(\mathbb{R}^n\) with \(\dim F=[(1- \theta)n]\) such that \[ P_F(K) \supset {f(\theta) \over M_K} D_N \cap F, \tag{*} \] where \(P_F\) denotes the orthogonal projection onto \(F\), \(M_K\) is a mean width of the polar body \(K^0\) and \(D_n\) is the Euclidean unit ball. (The best known estimate for \(f\) can be found in [\textit{Y. Gordon}, Lect. Notes Math. 1317, 84-106 (1988; Zbl 0651.46021)].) In the present paper the authors find analogous of (*) in the case when one is restricted to choose \(F\) among the coordinate subspaces \(\mathbb{R}^\sigma\), \(\sigma \subset \{1, \dots, n\}\) with \(\# \sigma= [(1-\theta) n]\). The basic source for the estimates is an exact coordinate analogue of (*) in the ellipsoidal case. Applications to the computation of the number of lattice points inside a convex body are considered throughout the paper.
