The paper deals with the elaboration of a computational method for obtaining approximate solutions of the singular Fredholm integral equation \[ \int_\Gamma f(x_1)\ln \frac{1}{|x_1-x_2|} d\Gamma= G(x_2),\qquad x_2\in\Gamma, \] where \(\Gamma\) is a smooth simple open curve in \(E^2\), \(G(x_2)\) is a given function. The author uses orthogonal polynomials in matrix form for the approximation of the unknown function as well as for the kernel and the given function. The singularity of the unknown function is isolated via the auxiliary function \(\theta(x)= \frac{1}{\sqrt{1- x^2}}\), \(-1\leq x\leq 1\). A comparison between the exact and the approximate solutions is given.
