A model in semiconductor theory leads to the inverse-monotone boundary value problem \[ -\varepsilon u''+\text{sinh } u=1,\quad x\in(0,1),\quad u(0)= u(1)=0,\tag{1} \] with parameter \(\varepsilon>0\). A detailed discussion of (1) has been made which consists of comparing simple or multiple shooting methods employing auxiliary initial value problems for (1) with a direct treatment of the BVP (1) mainly by means of a discretization method. In both cases two-sided bounds for the solution of (1) have been generated. Also the implementation of related computer code has been carried out. The employed numerical methods have been presented and compared.
