Let \(\Gamma\) be a graph with almost transitive group \(\Aut(\Gamma)\) and quadratic growth. We show that \(\Aut(\Gamma)\) contains an almost transitive subgroup isomorphic to the free abelian group \(\mathbb{Z}^2\).
