This paper deals with the interaction of a gas bubble with a free surface. Particular attention is paid to the phenomenon of bubble rebounding in connected form. The mathematical model is outlined briefly, and the boundary integral method is used to solve the Laplace equation for the velocity potential. The bubble content is described by an adiabatic gas law. The authors analyze the general characteristics of gas bubble and free surface evolution. For strong interaction case, they carry out computations for bubbles initiated from the free surface with various buoyancy parameters. The evolution of the bubble surface and the free surface is also investigated after a jet penetrates the bubble. The influence of the initial pressure inside the gas bubble is analyzed, and it is found that the bubbles tend to rebound in a simply-connected form when the strength parameter satisfy the null Kelvin impulse condition. The evolution of bubbles in toroidal form is examined, and it is demonstrated that for large strength parameters the bubbles collapse.
