Many problems in engineering such as circuit analysis, machine design, structural analysis etc. are represented by systems of differential equations, resulting in algebraic matrix quadratic after applying Laplace transformation to the system. In this paper various series, parallel and state-space canonical forms of the matrix quadratic and its inverse are considered. Manipulation and transformation of each realization obtaining thereby the relationship between these representations are emphasised, too. The techniques and transformations are generalized to matrix polynomials of higher degree as given in the Appendix. The applicability of the results is demonstrated on many typical examples such as computation of the admittance or transfer matrix of a passive network and analysis of multivariable system transfer function model.
