On step-2 transforms for simple perfect squared squares (Q1377727)

A simple perfect squared square (SPSS) of order \(n\) is a square \(S\) dissected into \(n\) smaller squares all differing in size, such that \(S\) contains no rectangle that itself is dissected into smaller squares. There is a unique SPSS of lowest order 21. At the time of writing 1577 such SPSS are known, many found by computer. Some, however, were constructed by step-0 or step-1 transforms, i.e., elementary procedures that convert an SPSS of order \(n\) into another SPSS of order \(n\) or into an SPSS of order \(n+1\), resp. In this paper two step-2 transforms are given and applied to the construction of two new SPSS of order 28.
