This is a very useful survey (without many proofs) on what is known about the maximum size \(m(r,q)\) of an \(n\)-arc in \(\text{PG}(r,q)\) and the size \(m'(r,q)\) of the second largest complete arc in \(\text{PG}(r,q)\). The connection of \(n\)-arcs in the projective space \(\text{PG}(r,q)\) (that is, a set of \(n\) points no \(r+1\) of which are contained in a hyperplane) and MDS-codes is briefly mentioned. Three fundamental problems of Segre are the starting point of the paper. The author however emphasizes results on the value of \(m(r,q)\). Everything what is known about it is surveyed. But the paper also contains all known results on the question of when an arc is (necessarily contained in) a normal rational curve.
