The author describes the historical background of forty identities involving the Rogers-Ramanujan functions \(G(q)\) and \(H(q)\). \textit{B. Gordon} [Duke Math. J. 32, 741-748 (1965; Zbl 0178.33404)] and \textit{H. Göllnitz} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 225, 154-190 (1967; Zbl 0166.00803)] studied functions \(S(q)\) and \(T(q)\) that share many properties with \(G(q)\) and \(H(q)\), including partition interpretations. This paper establishes analogues of Ramanujan's forty identities in the form of modular relations involving \(S(q)\) and \(T(q)\), with applications to partitions. This continues work in an earlier joint paper with \textit{H. H. Chan} [Ramanujan J. 1, 75-90 (1997)] which derived modular relations involving the so-called Ramanujan-Göllnitz-Gordon continued fractions.
