The set of equivalent norms on a given Banach space carries a natural metric. Denote by \(F\) the subset consisting of those norms which are Fréchet differentiable on some dense open subset. Suppose that the Banach space has a fundamental biorthogonal system. Then it can be renormed so that its dual has the weak* Mazur intersection property, which in turn implies that \(F\) is dense in this metric. If in addition \(F\) is not meagre, then the Banach space has an equivalent norm which is Fréchet differentiable everywhere but the origin. These are a sample of the results in this interesting paper.
