The authors approach the problem of parametric modeling and estimation of nonhomogeneous two-dimensional signals. Special attention is given to the class of constant module polynomial phase 2-D nonhomogeneous signals. Two different phase models and estimation algorithms based on phase differencing for the parameters of the models are developed. The Cramer-Rao lower bounds on the accuracy of estimating the model parameters are determined and the performance of the algorithms in the presence of Gaussian noise is illustrated by numerical examples and compared with the exact bounds. It is shown that the algorithms are robust in the presence of noise.
