The paper deals with Stone-Weierstrass theorems of the Collowang type. Let \(K\) be a non-Archimedean rank 1 valued field, let \(X\subset K\) be a precompact. Then the set of polynomial functions from \(X\) to \(V:=\{ \lambda\in k:|\lambda|\leq 1\}\) is uniformly dense in the set of continuous functions: \(X^\wedge\to V^\wedge\) (where \(^\wedge\) indicates completion). Also various ways of expanding continuous functions as infinite sums of polynomials are given. Note of the reviewer: It seems that the authors have been unaware of Theorem 5.28 of \textit{A. C. M. van Rooij}'s treatise `Non-Archimedean Functional Analysis', Marcel Dekker, New York (1978; Zbl 0396.46061), a result that might have helped to reduce efforts considerably.
