    The authors present a spherically symmetric collapse model including both radial and tangential stresses. They derive a class of anisotropic non-stationary solutions of the Einstein equations which contain well known collapse models as special cases. Considering matter models with a well defined thermodynamic description the authors write the Einstein equations in area-radius coordinates and construct the general solution admitting the separation of variables. Imposing reasonable physical requirements a class of solutions is determined which contains as special cases the Tolman-Bondi dust spacetimes, the general solution with vanishing radial stresses, and a new class of solutions with vanishing acceleration. The conditions for singularity formation and the spectrum of endstates is extensively discussed with the result that at least in case of spherical symmetry the role of the cosmic censor becomes very weak.
