The article of Ivanov and Pasini is a further substantial contribution to the classification of extensions of buildings under suitable additional conditions. The authors deal with the extensions \(\Gamma = c \cdot F_4 (2)\) of the building \(F_4(2)\) under the additional condition that for each element \(x\) of the rightmost type of \(\Gamma\) (note that \(\Gamma = c \cdot F_4 (2)\) has linear diagram) the residue \(\Gamma_x\) is a 1-point extension of the building \(C_3(2)\). There are four geometries (of type \(c \cdot F_4 (2)\)) known admitting a flag transitive automorphism group. More precisely, these geometries have automorphism groups isomorphic to \(^2E_6(2) : 2\), \(3 \cdot{^2E_6(2)}: 2\), \(E_6(2) : 2\) and \(2^{26} : F_4(2)\). The main result of the authors is that the geometries with automorphism groups \(3 \cdot{^2E_6(2):2}\), \(E_6(2):2\) and \(2^{26}:F_4(2)\) are simply connected.
