In 1993, Lickorish used Kauffman brackets to give a simple geometric construction of the 3-manifold invariants of Reshetikhin and Turaev from the representation category of the quantum group \(U_q(\text{sl}_2)\). This approach was generalized to \(\text{sl}_m\) by Yokota, Aiston-Morton and Blanchet using the HOMFLY polynomial in place of the Kauffman bracket. In [\textit{A. Beliakova} and \textit{C. Blanchet}, Comment. Math. Helv. 76, 467-500 (2001; Zbl 0996.57003)], the authors constructed pre-modular categories generating the symplectic quantum invariants for \(\text{sp}_m\) and ``half'' of the invariants for the orthogonal case \(\text{so}_m\). This approach did not provide objects corresponding to spin representations. In the current paper, the author gives a geometric construction of \(\mathbb Z_2\)-graded odd and even orthogonal modular categories, where the 0-graded parts coincide with the categories constructed by the author and Blanchet in the above paper. The invariants induced by the odd and even categories are shown to admit spin and \(\mathbb Z_2\)-cohomological refinements, respectively.
