The authors introduce a new family of probability density functions (p.d.f.'s) on the positive real line. This is done by defining a gamma-type function through the confluent hypergeometric function of two variables. The new family of p.d.f.'s includes as special cases p.d.f.'s already studied in the literature. The expressions for the moments, in particular the mean, the distribution and survival functions, the hazard rate, and the mean residual life are given.
