Some equivalent conditions for the generator of a so-called contraction \(n\)-times integrated semigroup in a Banach space are described in the present paper. Then these are applied to \(q\)-matrices. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the \(q\)-matrix to generate a contraction integrated semigroup and to generate a transition function with the Feller-Reuter-Riley property are also studied.
