The classical Minkowski problem concerns the existence and uniqueness of closed convex hypersurfaces with prescribed Gauss curvature. Given a real number \(p\), the \(L_{p}\)-version of the Minkowski problem in the plane asks to find under what conditions on a positive continuous function \(g(x)\), with \(g(x+T)=g(x)\) for some \(T>0\) and all \(x\in\mathbb{R}\), does the equation \[ y^{1-p}(y^{\prime\prime}+y)=g \] have a solution \(y(x)>0\) such that \(y(x+T)=y(x)\) for all \(x\in\mathbb{R}\). For \(p=1\) the problem reduces to the classical Minkowski problem in the plane. The case \(p>2\) was studied by \textit{J. L. Kazdan} in [Application of partial differential equations to problem in geometry, preliminary revisited version (1998)], and the case \(p=2\) was discussed by the author in [Positive solution of Hill's equations, Doctoral Dissertation Polytechnical University (2000)]. The present paper deals with the remaining cases \(1\neq p<2\) (except for \(p=0\)) and shows that the previous equation has a positive solution, assuming \(T<1\). This result relies on an a priori positive lower bound for a minimizer of a suitable functional.
