Irreducible polynomials over GF(2) with prescribed coefficients. (Q1421527)

The authors determine formulas for the number of irreducible polynomials of even positive degree \(n\) over GF(2) with prescribed coefficients of \(x^{n-1}\), \(x^{n-2}\), and \(x^{n-3}\). For the case of odd \(n\), see \textit{R. W. Fitzgerald} and \textit{J. L. Yucas} [Finite Fields Appl. 9, No. 3, 286--299 (2003; Zbl 1097.11058)]. In \textit{K. Cattell, C. R. Miers, F. Ruskey, J. Sawada} and \textit{M. Serra} [J. Comb. Math. Comb. Comput. 47, 31--64 (2003; Zbl 1056.11075)] irreducible polynomials over GF(2) with two prescribed coefficients are counted.
