For a crisp set \(X\) and a completely distributive lattice \(L\) with an order-reversing involution an \(\alpha\)-PSC-remote neighbourhood family of \(A\) (briefly \(\alpha\)-PSC-BF of \(A\)), \(\alpha\in M(L)\), \(A\in L^X\), was defined by the author in [J. Fuzzy Math 9, 497--509 (2001; Zbl 0999.54006)]. Let \((L^X,\delta)\) be an \(L\)-topological space and \(A\in L^X\). \(A\) is called near PS-compact if every \(\alpha\)-PSC-RF \(\phi\) of \(A\) has a finite subfamily \(\psi\) of \(\phi\) such that \(\psi\) is an \(\alpha\)-PSC-RF of \(A\) \((\alpha\in ML)\). In particular, when \(A= 1_X\) is near PS-compact, \((L^X,\delta)\) is called a near PS-compact space. Characterizations and topological properties of near PS-compactness are studied as well as relations between near PS-compactness, PS-compactness and fuzzy compactness. Some results are as follows. \(A\in L^X\) is near PS-compact iff every constant \(\alpha\)-net in \(A\) \((\alpha\in M(L))\) has a PS-cluster point in \(A\) with height \(\alpha\). If \((L^X,\delta)\) is a near PS-compact space and \(B\in\text{PSC}(L^X)\) then \(\beta\) is near PS-compact. If \((X,\delta)\) is a near PS-compact \(L\)-topological space, \(L= [0,1]\), then \((X,\delta)\) is PS-compact iff each pre-semiclosed set as a function has a maximum.
