The present reviewer [Invent. Math. 101, No. 2, 501--519 (1990; Zbl 0721.53060)] has introduced the notion of Hamiltonian stability of minimal Lagrangian submanifolds in Kähler manifolds, and provided a criterion for the stability in terms of the lower bound of the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian on the induced metric on the Lagrangian submanifold. He also applied this criterion to the study of Hamiltonian stability of the real forms of Hermitian symmetric spaces in particular. In the paper under review, the author improves and generalizes the above mentioned result (loc. cit.) by providing the necessary and sufficient condition on the minimality of Lagrangian submanifolds in adjoint orbits, and that of the Hamiltonian stability thereof, which are not necessarily Hermitian symmetric spaces.
