Let \((X, d)\) be a metric space and let \(T\) be a self-map of \(X\) such that (Čirić contraction): \[ d(Tx, Ty) \leq k\max \{d(x, y), d(x, Tx), d(y,Ty), d(x, Ty), d(y, Tx)\} \] for all \(x, y\) in \(X\), where \(k\) is some number in \([0, 1)\). It is well-known that \(T\) satisfying the (Čirić contraction) has a unique fixed point in a complete metric space \(X\) and that the Picard sequence of iterates converges to the fixed point. \textit{B. E. Rhoades} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 56, 741--750 (1976; Zbl 0353.47029)] and \textit{S. A. Naimpally} and \textit{K. L. Singh} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 96, 437--446 (1983; Zbl 0524.47033)] raised the following question: Can the Ishikawa iterative procedure be extended to the class of maps (Čirić contraction) in metric spaces? This question has an affirmative answer when \(X\) is a Hilbert or Banach space. The purpose of this paper is to provide an affirmative answer in a more general setting, namely when \(X\) is a complete convex metric space.
