    Let \((X, (p_i)_{i\in I})\) be a Hausdorff locally convex space and \(T,S: Y \subset X \to X\) be two operators. The authors give a common fixed point theorem for \((T,S)\), which generalizes some results by \textit{W. J. Dotson Jr.} [J. Lond. Math. Soc. 4, 408--410 (1972; Zbl 0229.47047)], \textit{E. Tarafdar} [Bull. Aust. Math. Soc. 13, 241--254 (1975; Zbl 0318.47032)] and \textit{W. W. Taylor} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 40, 164--173 (1972; Zbl 0207.45501)]. Some applications to best approximation operators are given.
