Using a Stroh-type formalism, the author obtains an exact solution to the problem of a finite number of electrode layers embedded at the interface of two piezoelectric half-planes. In contrast to the existing literature, it is assumed that the tractions are continuous across thin electrode layers. Detailed solutions and discussion are provided for the single electrode layer and for a finite number of electrode layers. It is shown that the normal traction and the normal electric displacement exhibit an inverse square root singularity at the tips of the electrodes, and that debonding of the interface is more likely to occur at the electrode layers.
