From the conclusions: We present a finite element model for the analysis of dynamic delamination in fiber-reinforced composite material. The analysis results show that the model predicts the response of composite material under impact loading with most of its inherent characteristics. The results also indicate that the computational homogenization of material, attempted in the past, cannot be a good assumption in the case of dynamic loading of heterogeneous material since the procedure does not capture the wave dispersion and scattering by various constituents. The intrinsic layered composition of composite materials considered in the present analysis is one of the methods to simulate this effect. Shock attenuation as it propagates along the thickness of the sample plate, reduction in its peak magnitude and unusually long rise times are all present. We show that the attenuation of the free surface velocity is the result of wave dispersion and scattering due to reflection by various layers and interfaces.
