The authors argue that some numerical methods to solve the Maxwell equations in the presence of charged particles leave Gauss' law out of consideration and hence numerical errors introduced during discretization cause the electric charge not to be conserved. To incorporate the charge conservation, an additional term [\textit{F. Assous et al.,} J. Comput. Phys. 109, No. 2, 222-237 (1993; Zbl 0795.65087)] is introduced in the Maxwell equations, and the authors have discussed the resulting Maxwell system in their earlier paper [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I, Math. 328, No. 5, 431-436 (1999; Zbl 0937.78005)]. In the paper under review, the authors propose a numerical solution of the modified Maxwell system by using a finite volume method, and they compare their numerical technique with other similar techniques.
