History in mathematics education. The ICMI study (Q1583567)

This book is the final result of an ICMI (International Commission of Mathematics Instruction) Study held in 1998 in France and will become a key reference for all people interested in the role of History in Mathematics Education. The editors John Fauvel and Jan van Maanen have made a wonderful job orgainising the large number of contributions made by leading specialists in this field. The publication faces the main problems arising in the introduction of historical contents in curricula, book, projects, lessons, homework, assessment, etc. International examples are presented, research results are given, beautiful practices described. Moreover, the book contains a fine bibliography in different languages and a very interesting selection of resources and web sites. The good combination of theoretical considerations and didactical purposes make the publication interesting for teaching people at all levels.
