This book covers current research and methodology of the history of mathemarics education. The book grew out of presentations delivered at the ICME-13/13th International Congress of Mathematics Education, which took place in Hamburg, Germany, in July 2016. The history of mathematics education is a complex field of research. The many research strands lead to different, but overlapping, perspectives on the history of mathematics education: the social and the political mix, the trends towards internationalization, sometimes creating conflicting situations. The editors of this book were particular in choosing authors from many socio-cultural environments. The 14 chapters present viewpoints from the following countries: Belgium, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Cyprus, Germany, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Spain and Sweden. The collection reflect the basic directions chapter represents significant directions of researcher's interests at this time. An opening chapter, called The Hamburg score (in lieu of an introduction), provides an overall explanation of the conception of this collection of essays. A generous author index and a subject index complete this important contribution to the field.
