From the conclusions: We study a generalized two-dimensional problem of an elliptic hole or a crack in piezoelectric media by means of Stroh formalism. An exact explicit solution is presented. It is shown that for a piezoelectric medium with crack under combined mechanical and electric loads at infinity, the electric loading may promote or retard the crack propagation, which is dependent on the magnitude and direction of applied electric load. However, when the applied electric load, either positive or negative, reaches a sufficient value, it always enhances the crack propagation.
