The question studied in this paper is that of existence of a Riemannian metric of positive scalar curvature on manifolds with Baas-Sullivan singularities. The manifolds considered are Spin and simply connected. The discussion is limited to special classes of singularities \(\Sigma\). The Atiyah-Bott-Shapiro map \(\alpha:M\operatorname{Spin}\to KO\) is extended to the corresponding theories with singularities: \(\alpha^\Sigma: M\operatorname{Spin}^\Sigma\to KO^\Sigma.\) \(M\operatorname{Spin}^\Sigma\) in the spectrum representing the cobordism theory with \(\Sigma\)-singularities and for the choices of \(\Sigma\) in the paper it turnes out that \(M\operatorname{Spin}^\Sigma = M\operatorname{Spin}\wedge X_\Sigma\) for some spectra \(X_\Sigma\). Then the author introduces \(KO^\Sigma=KO\wedge X_\Sigma\) which he calls the corresponding ``\(K\)-theories with singularities''. The author offers a discussion of manifolds with Baas-Sullivan singularities and how to introduce a Riemannian metric on them. Key ideas and results due to S. Stolz are being used. The main geometric result is the following theorem: Let \(M^n\) be a simply connected Spin \(\Sigma\)-manifold of dimension \(n\geq d(\Sigma)\) (a number depending on the singularity class), so that all \(\Sigma\)-strata are non-empty manifolds. Then \(M\) admits a metric of positive scalar curvature if and only if \(\alpha^\Sigma([M])=0\) in the group \(KO^\Sigma_n\).
