Extended affine Lie algebras (EALAs) were introduced by \textit{R. Høegh-Krohn} and \textit{B. Torresani} in [J. Funct. Anal. 89, 106-136 (1990; Zbl 0792.17019)]. The basic structure theory of EALAs was developed in [\textit{B. Allison}, \textit{S. Azam}, \textit{S. Berman}, \textit{Y. Gao} and \textit{A. Pianzola}, Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 603 (1997; Zbl 0879.17012)]. Let \({\mathfrak g}\) be a Lie algebra over \({\mathbb C}\), and let \(\sigma\) be an automorphism of \({\mathfrak g}\) such that \(\sigma ^{m} = 1\). The authors of the present paper consider the Lie algebra \(\text{Aff}(\sigma, {\mathfrak g})\), the affinization of \({\mathfrak g}\) relative to \(\sigma\). They investigate when the affinization \(\text{Aff}(\sigma, {\mathfrak g})\) of an EALA \({\mathfrak g}\) is itself an EALA, and determine the relationship between the corresponding root system. The authors also present many important examples.
