A new unstaggered finite-difference time-dependent scheme is introduced to enable the analysis of typical two-dimensional antenna structures. The results are achieved by converting the original unbounded boundary value problem into a problem over a bounded domain using appropriate radiation operators over a finite artificial boundary. Generalized curvilinear coordinates are generated in such a way that the curvilinear boundaries correspond to coordinate lines. The numerical procedure that is then used is designed to generate almost orthogonal boundary-conforming fine grids over the bounded regions that are involved. A time-dependent method is used to obtain a time harmonic steady-state solution. The result determines the electric field wave amplitude, the wave pattern inside the waveguide, and the scattered field. An optical theorem for a flanged waveguide antenna with perfect electrical conductor walls is also derived.
