This paper is devoted to the following singular perturbation problem: Let \(u_\varepsilon= u_\varepsilon(t,x)\) be the entropy solution of \[ \begin{cases} \varepsilon\bigl( \partial_tu+\partial_xf(u)\bigr) =g(u),\quad & (x,t) \in\mathbb{R}\times (0,\infty),\\ u(x,0)=u_0(x),\quad & x\in\mathbb{R},\end{cases} \tag{1} \] where \(u_0\) is a given initial data. The author adresses to the following questions: a) What happens to the family of solutions \(u_\varepsilon\) as \(\varepsilon\to 0\)? b) What relation has the limit \(u_0\) of such a family (if it exists) with the (formal) limiting equation \(g(u)=0\)?
