This paper continues Part I [Ann. N. Y. Acad. Sci. 806, 364-381 (1996; Zbl 0886.54035)], and Part II [Commun. Algebra 27, No. 1, 189-218 (1999; Zbl 0924.54045)]. In the paper under review the author shows that the field topologies introduced in [\textit{J. E. Marcos}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 129, No. 2, 149-172 (1998; Zbl 0933.12007)] are special cases of the author's construction of direct topologies on rings, and their completions.
