The author shows how the set of all degree reduction methods in the Bernstein basis can be defined, gives a general expression for their errors, and describes a set of numerical procedures for carrying them out. Applying the condition number theory, the procedures that are well conditioned are determined. It is shown also how the basic functions of computer aided geometric design systems may be used to construct interactively the degree reduction methods in the Bernstein basis or to examine their errors.
