The framework is a diffusion Markov triple consisting of a Polish space \(X\), a measure \(\mu\) and a ``carré du champ'' operator \(\Gamma\) associated to a linear operator \(L\). Then one can deduce the iterated ``carré du champ'' operator and the so-called curvature-dimension property \(CD(K,\infty)\). One considers the equation \(Lu+F(u)=0\) in \(X\) for a smooth function \(F\) on \(\mathbb R\), and the energy functional \({\mathcal F}(u)=\int_X\Gamma(u)/2\,d\mu-\int_XG(u)d\mu\) where \(G\) is a primitive of \(F\). Then weak solutions of \(Lu+F(u)=0\) are the critical points of \(\mathcal F\), and a solution is said to be stable if the second order derivative of \(\mathcal F\) is nonnegative. The main result is that under some technical assumptions, if \(CD(K,\infty)\) is satisfied for a \(K>0\) and if \(u\) is a stable solution, then \(u\) is constant. Applications are described, such as the case of a Riemannian manifold \((M,g)\) with measure \(\mu=e^{-G}dV\), and with operator \(Lf=\Delta_gf-\langle\nabla G,\nabla f\rangle_g\).
