A finite dimensional nilpotent Lie algebra \(H\) is called generalized Heisenberg of rank \(n\) if the center of \(H\) is equal to the derived algebra of \(H\) and they have dimension \(n\). These algebras are studied in this paper when \(n=1/2d(d-1)\), where \(d\) is the minimum number of elements that generate \(H\). Since \(H\) is nilpotent, \(d=\operatorname{dim}(H/H^2)\). A presentation for \(H\) is found. The Schur multiplier is shown to be isomorphic to \(F^3/F^4\) where the terms on the right are quotients in the lower central series of the free Lie algebra on \(d\)-generators. A converse to this result is also found. \(H\) is found to be capable. A necessary and sufficient condition that an algebra be a cover of \(H\) is given. Then results are found about the Schur multiplier and tensor square for algebras of class 2. This is an interesting paper, full of nice results.
