The article provides an alternative approach to the classification of smooth complex contractible affine threefolds admitting a hyperbolic action of the multiplicative group $\mathbb{G}_{m}$ established by \textit{M. Koras} and \textit{P. Russell} [J. Algebr. Geom. 6, No. 4, 671--695 (1997; Zbl 0882.14013)] using the general formalism of proper polyhedral divisors introduced by \textit{K. Altmann} and \textit{J. Hausen} [Math. Ann. 334, No. 3, 557--607 (2006; Zbl 1193.14060)].
