Let \(F(x,y)\in\mathbb{Z}[x,y]\) and \(m\geq 2\). We say that a set of integers \(S\) is an \((F,m)\)-Diophantine set, if for all \(a,b\in S\) with \(a\neq b\), \(F(a,b)\) is a perfect \(m\)-th power in \(\mathbb{Z}\). By earlier results due to Bérczes, Dujella, Hajdu and Tengely it is known that \(S\) must be finite, unless \(F(x,y)\) has a special (completely described) shape. In the present paper the authors show that for any finite \(S\) with \(|S|=n\), one may find infinitely many \(f(x)\in\mathbb{Z}[x]\) of degree \(n-2\) such that \(S\) is an \(F\)-Diophantine set with respect to \(F(x,y)=f(x)f(y)\). A refinement on the degree of \(f\) is also presented. In their proofs, among others, the authors make use of various hypersurfaces, e.g. determinantal varieties.
