In his seminal paper [in: Mathematics: frontiers and perspectives. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS). 271--294 (2000; Zbl 1031.00005)], \textit{S. Smale} set out a list of eighteen problems for the 21st century, including the problem whether a typical diffeomorphism on a compact manifold has trivial centralizer. This problem was solved for the \(C^1\)-topology in [\textit{C. Bonatti} et al., Publ. Math., Inst. Hautes Étud. Sci. 109, 185--244 (2009; Zbl 1177.37025)], but is open in the general case. On the other hand, the analogous problem in the time-continuous setting, i.e., for flows and \(\mathbb{R}^d\)-actions, is less understood. The paper studies this problem for the so-called Komuro-expansive flows and for expansive actions of \(\mathbb{R}^d\). One of the main results states that for Komuro-expansive flows, under some additional assumptions on the singularities, every commuting flow is a continuous linear reparametrization of the original flow. A similar result for expansive \(\mathbb{R}^d\)-actions is achieved.
