The authors introduce a Legendre spectral collocation method in order to solve some Caputo fractional boundary value problems. First, they reformulate the original problem as an equivalent Volterra-Fredholm integral equation and provide some existence and uniqueness results for this new equation. Then they introduce some basic properties of the Legendre/Jacobi polynomial interpolations and state the Legendre spectral collocation method for the reformulated nonlinear Volterra-Fredholm equation. Eventually, they derive some error bounds for the Legendre collocation method when smooth solutions are assumed. Two linear as well as two nonlinear problems each with smooth and, respectively, weakly singular solutions are solved in order to exemplify the capabilities of the proposed method.
