Let \(G(2,2n+2)\) denote the Grassmann manifold of all complex 2-dimensional subspaces of \(\mathbb{C}^{2n+2}\) with its standard Kähler structure. The authors give the definition of the quaternionic projective space \( \mathbb{H}P^{n}\) as a totally geodesic submanifold in \(G(2,2n+2)\). They give some fundamental results concerning \(G(k,N)\) and some brief description of the Veronese sequence and the rigidity theorem in \(\mathbb{C}P^{N}\). They determine reducible and irreducible harmonic maps from \(S^{2}\) to \(\mathbb{H} P^{n}\). They also obtain a classification theorem.
