The authors discuss analogues of some classical results in group theory (the Noether isomorphism theorems, the Zassenhaus butterfly lemma, the Schreier refinement theorem, the Dedekind modularity law, and the Jordan-Hölder theorem) in the context of locally compact quantum groups and linearly reductive quantum groups. In the locally compact case (which is operator algebraic), it is often necessary to make further assumptions (such as integrability, compactness or discreteness). In the linearly reductive case (which is Hopf algebraic), the quantum versions of the results hold without further assumptions. The authors study the disparities and similarities between the two approaches to quantum group theory mentioned above.
