Given a \(\mathbb{Q}\)-factorial complete toric variety and a Weil divisor \(D\), the main result of this paper provides a numerical criterion to decide if \(D\) admits a positive multiple Cartier divisor which is either nef (numerically effective) or ample. This criterion is built on an interpretation of Gale duality and secondary fan developed in several previous papers by the same authors. From a computational point of view, this criterion provides an easy to implement algorithm. From a theoretical point of view, applying this criterion to the anticanonical Weyl divisor the authors obtain numerical criteria to check whether a given \(\mathbb{Q}\)-factorial complete toric variety is either (weak) \(\mathbb{Q}\)-Fano, Gorenstein or (weak) Fano. In the last section of the paper the authors provide many examples illustrating the results.
